Carmel’s historic Sunset Center was originally started as a public school in 1926. Since then, the center has been transformed into a state-of-the-art performing arts and community center with incredible gothic architecture and superb acoustics. Today, the Sunset Center is regarded as the cultural heart of Carmel. Wide arrays of performances are staged at the center including comedy, global music, rock shows, theatre, and dance.
In addition to out-of-town performances, the Sunset Center also stages several local presenting partners including the Carmel Music Society, Monterey Symphony, Chamber Music Monterey Bay, and the famous Carmel Bach Festival. In accordance with the center’s position as the cultural heart of Carmel, the facility is also home to the Center for Photographic Art, the Forest Theatre Guild, the Arts Council for Monterey County, and the Yoga Center of Carmel.
The Sunset Center is an absolute gem of the Carmel-by-the-Sea town. If the stunning architecture isn’t enough to inspire awe, then surely the spectacular performances will be. For a full schedule of events, visit the Sunset Center’s website at www.sunsetcenter.org.
